On Target With Missoni

I must admit that I am a bit slow off the mark with this one, but here goes! The next big brand that Target is partnering with to bring a bit of savoir faire to the masses is the Italian stalwart, Missoni!

I have always been a fan of Missoni’s bright colours, their swirls, zigzags and near hallucinogenic florals. Instantly recognizable as Missoni, the brand ranks up there with Pucci, for individual patterns and designs which are highly evocative of the glamorous jet-set.

The line will debut September 13, 2011. The Missoni for Target collection will include over 400 pieces of men's, women's, and children's clothing, not to mention home décor even a bicycle.

“It’s been a fantastic experience, “says Angela Missoni, “one we are eager to share with families across the United States.”

"Quality has always been one of the key aspects of Missoni, along with knitwear, pattern, and color," Margherita Missoni explains. "It's this artisanal quality that was so important to my grandparents."

While waiting with baited breath and kicking myself that we do not have a Target here yet in Canada I can only wonder if the average Target Shopper in middle America will know who or what Missoni is?

  1. Haha I was just talking to a friend about this a few minutes ago! I also blogged about it earlier.. I am so ready to clear out the whole store.. New clothes and new everything for an apartment since I am planning on moving out the following month.. I just hope everything will be reasonably priced.. I think you need a trip to the closest Target outside of Canada and buy some stuff!

    All the best, Angel

  2. I think Missoni has penetrated the market in large cities with their perfumes and such, and they're Italian--Target will market that to death.

  3. You are so right! Missoni is so easily recognisable... saw them all over Italy and learned about them actually the year before moving to Rome. (I was late in the game:) That bike is amazing!

  8. I love Missoni but this pattern simply doesn't suit me. I tried it so many times. Every time I'm for example in Hamburg I try something on and it always looks horrible. I don't know why but I think I'm simply the only woman on earth who is doomed to live without Missoni. I have a top but it's SPORT Missoni. Without zig-zags. Paradoxically this works on me. But NO ZIG-ZAGS!

  10. I usually buy all my tie-shirts - plain black, blue, and white ones - at Target, usually during our winter stay in and around Athens, Georgia.
I'll be looking forward to buying the Missoni ones :-)

  11. How cool is that bicycle! I give Target a lot of credit for introducing design to middle America, starting with Michael Graves.

  12. I'm kind of excited too. Even though it's Target, at least I will now be able to afford some Missoni product. I'll probably go across the border when the product is out. But might not after the targets open here in Canada...then it will just be too common :p

Dale, I am dying to see the complete range and what the quality is going to be like.

  17. Missoni for Target will definitely get me into the store....which will result on me spending at $100, because its impossible to go to target and buy "just one thing" so in that regard I think the Missoni collection will be a success whether are the not the actual product will be. I was disappointed that I didn't get a pair of Missoni Havaiana's...they are very cool, but sold out every place I looked. Who wouldn't "need" a Missoni bike? Love it.

  20. I wish Toronto would hurry up and get a Target store. I am still sorry to not to have had access to their recent Liberty of London collections. Until they get here, we'll just have to get the stuff on eBay.

  21. Mr SWF, yes I do wish they hurry up! I missed out on the Liberty collection, so will have to make sure we get some Missoni.

Anna, Yes, I too must have something!
